Once connected to a Zebra printer, the KDU Plus can access saved forms, input variable data and print labels without the need of a computer.
Direct configuration is done over the dynamic serial port or alternatively over the integrated PS/2 interface. That means external devices can be connected directly without the need of a computer.
An AC adaptor is not required either, as the keyboard can use the 5V power supply of the printer. Industry, midrange and high-end class devices require minor modification of the printer circuit board configuration.
